Here is a portion of the appeal we filed. Here are the arguments we are making, among others as to why the decision was not acceptable.

 

The 1 Acre Promise (2004)

In 2004 the Mayor of the City of Hillsboro made a commitment on behalf of the City. That letter is attached and is a big piece of the controversy and debate in this matter.

 

Archaeologist David Ellis Raises Concerns

One of the premier Archaeologists in the State has worked on the MMH site and is raising concerns more has to be done. Read his letter here.

Our Monument

Our groups and supporters spent may hours to design a meaningful design. This was/is our presentation we made to the City planning staff and the HLAC (Historic Landmarks Advisory Committee)

 

Benson’s Map

Historian Robert Benson was prolific and excellent in his research and writing through much of the 1900’s. His maps were well researched. Here is one of his maps showing the Donation Land Claims of Joe and Virginia Meek and of the Constables who allows the Methodists to build the Meeting House on their land.

Read the letter from our State Historic Preservation Office stating they believe the site is unevaluated and needs more work done. This is a very important letter.
